Best steakhouse in the city! Came here for a birthday dinner and everything exceeded our expectations. Superb service and great ambience. Our server Rich was over the top! I asked him about the fried chicken because so many people rave about it. He surprised us by bringing out a small portion on the house to sample. It lived up to the hype! Highly recommend! The steak tartare with the homemade sourdough was phenomenal. No surprise, but the steak was also phenomenal. We ordered the Brussel sprouts and truffle mac and cheese. Both were great! The truffle mac and cheese is very rich and has a very strong truffle flavor, but still great. The chocolate pie was OK. I would strongly recommend the carrot cake! Cheers!
The ambiance is lovely, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere from the moment you walk in. The service is excellent, with attentive and friendly staff who ensure that every need is met promptly. The food is exceptionally fresh and delicious, showcasing high-quality ingredients and skillful preparation. The menu is diverse and interesting, offering a range of options that cater to various tastes and preferences. The surroundings are delightful, with well-thought-out decor and comfortable seating that enhance the overall dining experience. It's a place where you can truly relax and enjoy a memorable meal.
You need to make a reservation in advance for this restaurant, and you can only get a 9.10pm slot for a casual appointment. The decoration is on the retro side, but I prefer cicio mio's decoration, more literary, but the food is more delicious. Recommended dishes: Shrimp Cocktail: the flavour of butter and garlic is very fragrant, with bread, this dish counts as his must order! Dry Age Bone in Ribeye: We also often make our own cooked at home, and then we want to compare the taste of the shop what is different, I can only say that other people with an open fire sizzling, than at home with an induction cooker to do a lot of fragrant. The meat was also very good and cooked very evenly. Not recommended: Spiced Fry Chicken: couldn't resist ordering this because it was being pushed all over xhs, the portion was huge with thick mashed potatoes underneath but it wasn't necessary and didn't feel special in any way. The mashed potato underneath wasn't bad Butter Mashroom: this was a side but the portion was also huge, tasted a bit bitter, didn't like it too much Some of the dishes I wanted to try: Bone Marrow: I've heard his beef bone marrow is delicious! His portions are indeed okay, we ended up packing all the dishes we didn't finish, but STEAKHOUSE, it's still better to have beef meat related dishes, fried chicken is a big no-no!
Returned to Bavettes, this time scoring a table in the downstairs parlor. Loved the parlor, it's all tables, quieter than the main dining room, with a really pleasant intimate feel, and the tables spread out to provide a bit of dining privacy. Head over heels better than the banquette seating upstairs. Started with some sourdough. We got a half loaf (the smaller serving). It was in a few large slices that initially each felt like a pretty big commitment, but it was so very tasty and crunchy. Highly recommend. A dozen fresh oysters were perfectly cleaned and shucked, and an absolute delight. They know how to serve and present fresh oysters here. We split a small mixed greens salad, and it was plenty for a salad course for us both. Admired the candied pecans, which were the tiniest whole pecan halves I'd ever seen. Excellent starter. I did the steak frites with a wagyu skirt steak, and the wife did the half lobster frites. Wait person suggest the frites were pretty large servings, so at their recommendation we subbed a different side for one of the frites. Excellent suggestion, the fries were plenty of a pile for us both, and the subbed mushrooms were also excellent. Wife was completely happy with the size of a half lobster, and commented on how perfectly it was shelled and made ready to eat. My skirt steak was an absolute delight. Great cocktails, awesome service, and really enjoyed a salted caramel gelato to finish it off. Bavettes rocks. It's on our short list, particularly the parlor, and would be hard to pass up if we can score reserves on any future Chicago visit.
Celebrated my birthday at Bavette's and everything was perfect. Food, Service, Ambience A+++. Our Server, Erik, took great care of us. He is a true professional with a great sense of humor. Our Menu: Steak Tartar 6 oz Filet 16 oz Ribeye Brussel Spouts Mashed Potatoes Truffled Mac & Cheese Vanilla Ice Cream with Hot Fudge
This is one of the best steakhouses I've ever been to. The inside is absolutely beautiful. It gives a very speakeasy type of vibe, and can be good for a date night, or maybe an after work type of vibe. I went on a Friday afternoon and sat at the bar. There were plenty of other people at the bar, so it was easy to spark up a conversation. The bartenders were nice as well and brought my food and drinks out in a timely manner. To the actual food. It was great. The fries are low key amazing lol, and the steak and cocktail were also great. I'd definitely visit this steakhouse again.
For drinks, we got the espresso martini, champagne smash, and the house red wine. The wine was just okay, but well worth the $7 price point. Came back to Bavette's to celebrate a birthday. We started with the famous Wedge Salad which was fantastic. We also got a small order of the sourdough bread, which was just two pieces, but the perfect amount for 2 people. We then ordered the filet Mignon and Brussels sprouts, both were excellent. The sprouts were so good. The filet just melted in my mouth. Bavette's is one of the best restaurants in Chicago. Great ambiance, excellent service, and delicious food.
Must get truffle Mac and cheese. Must make reservations ahead of time in the first day of the 20th day in the morning. I got the ribeye and fries but I could have done without the fries. I didn't touch them bc I had truffle Mac and cheese. The truffle Mac and cheese was the best I've had ever, the crust was crispy and it was cheesy. I don't typically like Mac and cheese but I will only eat Mac and cheese at bavettes Inside is really dark anywhere, I couldn't see.
Bavettes is an ultimate date night, celebratory special occasion, or just in the mood for some elite steak restaurant. The dark lighting is moody with gorgeous chandeliers and bars. We sat downstairs which was very intimate and Private in a booth for four. Let me just start with the Streak tartar... the bread it is served with is so crunchy and perfectly homemade I could have eaten this as my dinner! A steakhouse can't be great without an excellent tartar and this one was to die for. Whatever you do, get a salad or dish to share with the thick cut bacon. It may be the best bacon I have ever had EVER! Eating family style was perfect here, after sharing a few apps and getting a steak with some sides we saved room for the famous ice cream sundae with all the toppings you could ever imagine. Eating dinner here was a highlight of our Chicago trip and I would love to go back!
I'm not sure how anyone could not give Bavette's a 5-star rating. Between the food, the drinks, the ambiance, and the service, there's not much they can improve on. It's only my 2nd time here and I have no idea why I don't come here more often. Probably the difficulty in getting a table during normal dinner hrs. Our reservation was for 3:45pm and I'm actually glad it was so early. I was still full at 1am. I can't imagine eating that any later. So worth it though
